Another yearly overview of our journey is now up.
2025 in numbers
Dundee City Council now offers 223 public chargers across the city. This includes pop-up chargers from Urban Fox, four rapid charging hubs at Lochee, Queen Street, Princes Street and our accessible hub on Clepington Road as well as four multi-storey car park charging hubs at Greenmarket, Olympia, Gellatly Street and the newest addition at Bell Street.
The refurbishment of the Bell Street Hub has significantly improved the accessibility of charge points in Dundee and increased the number of accessible chargers to 42, which equals 18.8% of all charge points owned by Dundee City Council.
It is also worth noting that the private sector continues to expand their network in the city. With an ultra-rapid charging hub opened in 2024 and another charging hub installed in 2025, this is a positive sign for the growing demand for electric vehicle chargers in Dundee.

Award
Dundee City Council were awarded the Most Innovative Fleet Management Strategy at the Fleet Vision International Awards. With the aim to become net zero by 2038 and have an all-electric fleet by 20235, the Council has resorted to innovative solutions.
Through advanced Fleet Management systems and NFC charging fobs, the team has been successful in collecting data about the fleet vehicles. Investments in solar-powered depots and public EV charging hubs as well as incorporating battery storage have boosted carbon savings and energy resilience.
As a result, the Fleet has cut maintenance costs by 20% and fuel usage by 30% while also reducing emissions and improving air quality.

EcoRally Scotland 2025
Last July, Dundee proudly hosted the Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup, which was the first international rally held in Scotland since 2011. The three‑day event formed the eighth round of the global FIA Championship and showcased how everyday electric vehicles can take centre stage in competitive motorsport.
Organised by the Scottish Motor Racing Club in partnership with Motorsport UK, the rally highlighted Scotland’s commitment to Net Zero and Dundee’s leadership in EV innovation. The ceremonial start, attended by Councillors Steven Rome and Siobhan Tolland, celebrated the city’s efforts in electrified transport and mobility.
During the two days of competition, 21 international teams tackled challenging Tayside routes, including the “Dragon Stage” and a northern loop through Loch Tay and Queen’s View.

Contract announcement
Later in the year, Dundee City Council revealed exciting news about a new EV charging infrastructure contract.
Dundee City Council awarded Evolt Charging, part of SWARCO Smart Charging, a new 20‑year contract to manage, operate and maintain the city’s public and fleet EV charging network following the conclusion of the contract with ChargePlace Scotland.
This contract draws on extensive partnership between Dundee City Council and SWARCO, which goes back to 2011. Under the new agreement, Evolt will manage more than 190 chargers, including rapid chargers, battery storage systems and solar arrays across Dundee’s hubs and car parks, while continuing to support the Council’s fleet electrification and back‑office services.

Bell Street opening
The year also saw the opening of the first phase of the Bell Street Green Transport Hub, made possible through major investment from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund and Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund.
The refurbished hub reintroduces parking in the city centre while featuring EV charging, solar‑powered systems and cycling facilities. The transformed car park now offers 18 accessible and 10 family spaces, bringing the total number of EV charging bays to 180 at a single car park!

What’s next?
In August this year, Dundee City Council announced that cycling facilities would operate from the ground floor. This will open in spring 2026.
Planned facilities and programmes will include:
