Since World EV Day 2024, the electric vehicle (EV) market has continued to evolve at a remarkable pace. Driven by innovation, growing competition and rising consumer demand, the UK EV market is not only offering faster, longer-range, and more affordable models, but also seeing record-breaking sales. In the first six months of 2025, over 254,000 EVs were registered in the UK, which is a 21.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. There are now more than 1.6 million fully electric cars on UK roads, accounting for nearly 5% of all vehicles.
As we approach World EV Day 2025, let’s take a look at the outstanding models.
Fastest EV Models
For those who seek speed, it’s time to celebrate. The Rimac Nevera becomes the speed champion, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.85 seconds. Close second is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, reaching the same speed in 1.9 seconds – a barely noticeable difference. Joining them on the podium are the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, both reaching 60 mph in 2.1 seconds. With this lightning-fast acceleration, you might want to keep the windows up!

Longest Range EV Models
Range anxiety is quickly becoming a thing of the past. The Lucid Air Grand Touring leads with an impressive 516-mile range - enough to drive from Dundee to London with miles to spare. Close behind is the Mercedes EQS 450+ AMG Line with 511 miles, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ offers 484 miles on a single charge. These models make long-distance travel not only possible but comfortable and efficient.

Most Affordable EV Models
Affordability is no longer a barrier to EV ownership. The Leapmotor T03, a compact hatchback, delivers up to 165 miles of range for just £14,495. The Dacia Spring, introduced to the UK market in 2024, has been growing in popularity ever since. And no wonder – this spacious model offers 137 miles for £14,995, making it ideal for city commuting. The BYD Dolphin Surf, priced at £18,640, provides 127 miles of range. And with the New Electric Car grant, these and others are even more budget-friendly.
