Dundee to host Scotland's only international motorsport event - with a FREE festival open to everyone

13 July, 2026 | Dundee Electric

Scotland’s international celebration of electric mobility and sustainable motorsport returns to Dundee on 31st July-2nd August 2026. This year it has expanded into a free community festival featuring EV motorsport experiences, a Girls Karting Academy taster day, esports, test drives and passenger rides.

Dundee will host the return of EcoRally Scotland (a round of the FIA Eco Rally Cup) alongside a new StreetCar Festival Scotland from 31 July to 2 August, bringing international competition and free family-friendly activities to the city over three days. The event builds on the success of last year's inaugural EcoRally, which brought 21 teams from eight nations to compete on roads across Tayside and Fife in what was Scotland's first international rally in 14 years.

For 2026, the rally will be joined by the first StreetCar Festival Scotland, a free, open-to-all celebration designed to give Dundee residents and visitors a hands-on taste of EV motorsport. Activities will include free passenger rides, AutoSOLO experiences using everyday road cars, esports simulators, EV test drives, and a Girls Karting Academy taster day giving girls their first experience of competitive karting.

The festival is free to attend and free to participate in, with no experience or tickets required.

Dundee's EV infrastructure at the heart of the event

The event, co-sponsored by Dundee City Council and long-time EV infrastructure partner Evolt Charging, will make use of Dundee's EV infrastructure, reinforcing the city's position as one of the UK's most advanced EV cities. Bell Street (Dundee's newest green transport hub) will serve as the rally's Parc Fermé and overnight charging base for competing vehicles. Abertay University will host Rally HQ, competitor briefings and podium ceremonies, while John Clark Motor Group's Broomhill Road dealership will host the StreetCar Festival.

Dundee City Council transport lead Cllr Siobhan Tolland said: “This prestigious event will give us the opportunity to showcase Dundee’s achievements as an EV city. We have accomplished much on our Net Zero Journey - with fleet electrification, an extensive local network of charging points, industry leading charging hubs, the Low Emission Zone, and energy decarbonisation. Dundee’s pioneering efforts in electrifying our transportation infrastructure and embracing innovative technologies have firmly positioned the city as a leader in the EV space.”

Justin Meyer, Managing Director at Evolt Charging, said: "We're proud to support Dundee City Council in bringing this event to the city and showcasing the role electric mobility can play in everyday life. Dundee has shown real leadership in EV infrastructure, and we're pleased to continue supporting that journey.”

A route into international motorsport for everyone

EcoRally Scotland is one of the most accessible routes into genuine FIA international competition. Open to two-person crews using standard production electric vehicles, the rally tests navigation, energy management and driving precision rather than outright speed; no previous motorsport experience is required.

The StreetCar Festival takes that accessibility further. Motorsport UK's StreetCar programme is designed to show that motorsport isn't just for professionals or enthusiasts with specialist equipment. Anyone with an everyday car can take part.

The Girls Karting Academy taster day, run in partnership with TeamSport Karting Dundee, offers girls a free introduction to competitive karting as part of Motorsport UK's national programme to increase female participation in the sport.

Motorsport's CEO Hugh Chambers said: "FIA Eco Rally Scotland and StreetCar Festival Scotland will bring together international competition, grassroots participation and future mobility in a way that allows more people than ever before to enjoy motorsport. Whether competing in FIA Eco Rally Scotland, enjoying a passenger ride or simply joining the festival atmosphere, visitors will discover that there is a motorsport for everyone.”
